1.

Does granite need to be sealed?

TOP

  Yes.  Granite is slightly porous.

2.     Will my new countertop already be sealed?

TOP

Yes.  In fact, at St. Clair Monument & Granite Works we seal it twice.  We seal it once before the slab is cut and again after the counters are installed.

3.     Is sealing granite a job for a professional or can I do it myself?

TOP

You can do it yourself.  You can purchase sealer from us.  Just follow the directions on the bottle.

4.     Will heat harm granite?

TOP

Not at all.  You can set hot pans or casseroles right from the stove without worry.

5.     Can I cut on my granite countertops?

TOP

Yes.  But remember, you are cutting on a rock an it will dull your knives quickly.  A cutting board works best.

6.     Will acidic products like lemons, coffee or wine harm granite?

TOP

No.  Acidic products will not affect granite.  They will, however, do serious damage to marble.  The acidic pH reacts with marble and will actually etch the surface.

7.     How do I clean my granite countertops?

TOP

Routine cleaning is accomplished with simple soap and water.
